Participate in a Week Without Driving
Did you know that over 30% of our population cannot drive? A national event called Week Without Driving (September 29 – October 5) seeks to help everyone learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that nondrivers face, and work with nondrivers to create more accessible communities for all.
While neither BTS nor Montgomery County is a formal event partner with Week Without Driving, we want to let you know it’s happening because you’ll likely see some social media posts about it and wonder what’s up.
The event happens to dovetail nicely with Montgomery County’s “Vision Zero” plan. The County has put resources in place to eliminate serious-injury and fatal collisions on County roads for vehicle drivers and passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists and users of other mobility modes by the end of 2030. Everyone deserves to safely access and use vehicle, pedestrian and bike paths.

Celebrate Walk Maryland Day on October 1, 2025
Walk Maryland Day is a celebration of our official state exercise--walking! It is always celebrated statewide on the first Wednesday in October. It is a call to action to promote awareness about regular walking year-round, to encourage physical activity and improved health, engaging Marylanders with fun walks for all.
October 1st marks the 10th Annual Walk Maryland Day celebration. Walks this year will either be in person or virtual dependent on the guidelines around in person gatherings in October. All Marylanders are encouraged to take time on that day to lead or join a walking event around where they live, work or play on October 1, 2025.
